The Demo Era Is Over

Two operators said the same thing separately. A demo was enough in January. Now the only question that lands is whether the organization made money.

Where the demo stops working

Both conversations landed in the same place. In January a demo might have been enough. Now it is a question of accountability, and the only proof that counts is organizational results.

The first point was blunt. Building something with vibe coding and putting it in front of a real client are completely different activities. You can sharpen the skill and build toy projects, and then find you cannot deploy any of it when the client appears.

Air-gapped environments are the clean example. Financial institutions cannot use external models directly. During a proof of concept the environment is permissive. The moment it becomes a real contract, security policy and internal regulation arrive at once.

The problem is that people with this experience mostly cannot talk about it, because it is either proprietary or restricted. So a large share of public commentary on this topic comes from people who have not done it.

The second person made the same point from the content side. However well you say you use AI, the question of whether you actually earned anything stops the conversation. There are not many domestic cases of real revenue from AI yet, which means the critics are not entirely wrong.

The weight of being worth a hundred

What his team struggles with most is the productivity itself.

Once one person can do the work of a hundred, the weight that one or two people carry rises with it.

Say an engineer is genuinely excellent at vibe coding. The client asks whether a company-wide attendance and payroll system is possible. Technically it is. So you take it. Then you hear that an error in this system means payroll is wrong that month and people miss credit card payments, and the weight changes entirely.

He described an engineer who billed twenty million won in a single month and is currently in tears from the pressure. He called it vibe coding blue, a feeling that did not exist in January.

What experience fixed

The thing that solved it was a senior project manager.

Teams with an experienced PM attached had noticeably healthier engineers. When a client says that a failure could result in legal action, the PM absorbs it: they are our engineer, if there is an error we fix it.

Accommodation has no natural stopping point. Someone drawing the boundary in the middle is what actually protects people.

Alone through a proof of concept, not through a contract

His observation is that you can run a PoC alone and cannot run the contract alone. Technically nothing changes. The PoC already tested across the organization and the contract is putting it into production. In practice you want to decline and walk away.

Carrying an enterprise-wide solution by yourself has a weight that does not go away.

The other conversation described a different version of alone. Leaving a company and registering as an individual means handling everything the founder used to handle, from banking to registration, while also doing the development and the meetings. Most people cannot do that, even knowing they should.

His direction was specific anyway. First, things that make money immediately. Second, things he builds because he needs them. The ones that work are usually built by a team that badly wanted to use them. Third, games, on the view that as software subscription models weaken, content does not disappear.

Results are the marketing

FOMO-driven marketing and course selling do not land the way they did.

Forget the grand narrative. Showing that you made money with AI is the strongest possible statement about your capability and your service.
