Inviting a rapper to an AI community event needs explaining, so here is the explanation.
He had recently discussed AI music on a podcast, and his position was not defensive. AI already makes music better than people do, he said, and anyone who tries the tools can see it, so there is no reason to avoid them.
That alone would be a fine talking point. The part that made him worth inviting came next.
Consumption includes the story
His larger argument was that people do not consume music by itself. They consume what surrounds it. Which artist made this, out of what experience and what thinking, and what happened before and after the release.
Strip that away and you have audio. Keep it and you have something people attach to.
The implication for anyone building anything is direct. If the model produces better output than you do, use the model. Then spend your own time where the model cannot go, which is the narrative, the brand, and the reason this exists at all.
Why this matters beyond music
Software has the same structure and rarely admits it. Products are increasingly easy to build and increasingly hard to distinguish. What differentiates them is not usually the feature set.
It is who made it, what they believed while making it, and whether any of that reaches the person deciding whether to care.
That is the entire reason a rapper belonged in a room full of builders.
